I recently purchased the Dyson Airwrap and I have to admit that though super expensive it is definitely worth it. However, I got free attachments, free tools and saved money on a brand new Airwrap.
How I saved money on a new Dyson Supersonic & Airwrap
Originally I wanted a hairdryer. Not a styler.
I wanted to save time with my morning hair routine. I have a lot of hair and when washing it in the morning before work it would take me 30 minutes with drying and styling.
I’m not a morning person, so getting up earlier is not my thing.
I also have a combination wavy/curly hair that takes a long time to dry. Ideally, a hairdryer with a diffuser would be perfect to have tidy curls with minimal frizz and flyaways. My current hairdryer didn’t come with a diffuser.
In my search for a new hairdryer I came across the Dyson Supersonic. This little hairdryer would fix all of the above, plus it also claims to be super quiet as well.
Research First
I used Reddit to learn what questions and comments people had about Dyson and the Supersonic hairdryer. There were several people selling theirs, but the reviews were that people like it. General comments were mostly about looking for tips on how to use it.
I decided to research further. Researching Dyson hair care products paid off.
Once I decided to spend the money on a Dyson I went to a local retailer to buy it. When I got home and opened the box and found that I was sold an older model.
None of the new tools were included so I promptly returned it.
That experience led me to the next step that I recommend for saving money.
Direct from the Manufacturer
As an extreme saver the first thing I did was search for online promotions and didn’t find any. Typically, most retailers have sales during a holiday. However, there were none coming up and I didn’t have time to wait for the next holiday sale.
I went to the Dyson website and bought the Dyson Supersonic.
I ended up paying full price for the Dyson Supersonic Prussian Blue / Rich Copper that came with a Prussian Blue presentation case and 5 tools.
The drawback when buying from the manufacturer is having to wait to receive it. The option to pay for shipping for faster delivery is there, but i’m frugal lol. I don’t pay for shipping.
Return Options
I couldn’t figure out why people in the Reddit thread would post that they were selling theirs instead of returning it. I promptly found out, which is why my recommendation for saving money is to buy from the manufacturer.
The manufacturer generally has a longer return period than the department stores. Dyson has a 30 day return policy.
Having a longer return period gave me sufficient time to truly try out the product without being rushed.
Had I kept the Dyson from my local retailer I would have been in a pickle since it took me a while to fully test out the Supersonic hair dryer. The retailer’s return policy is 14 days.
I would have been stuck with a pricey hair dryer.
Note: the local retailer is not a mom & pop store.
The latest and Upgraded
Another reason why it is a savings to buy from the manufacturer is getting the latest model. Had I not done my research about Dyson hair care products I would have ended up getting the old model which had none of the cool attachments of the new model.
Below is an image of the tools that come with the new Dyson Supersonic
Refunds & Returns
The next step that ensures saving money is looking at the refund and return policy.
The newer model is magnetic and has 5 tools to attach. The ones I used the most were the Gentle Air and the Flyaway Attachments.
For flat, straight hair the Flyaway attachment is superb. It really got my hair super straight and no frizz or flyaway hair. This tool does what it claims for sure.
The Gentle Air attachment quickly dried my hair. And since I have medium length hair, the Gentle Air tool did not tangle my hair like most hairdryers.
The best part about the Supersonic is that it took me 7 minutes at most to dry and style my hair! I timed it a few times too.
My morning hair routine was a flash.
However, the Diffuser attachment was a different story. It left my hair with frizz, with flyaway hair and dry looking. A diffuser was one of the top reasons I was looking for a new hair dryer.
My hairstylist said it had to do with the hair product I was using. I then set out to try a few brands of shampoo and conditioners. I tried out 3 different products and had the same results. Finally, I gave up and decided to return the Supersonic.
Luckily, since I had bought it from the manufacturer I had no problem with returning it and getting my money refunded.
I paid full price for the Supersonic hairdryer. Not a savings at all, but I didn’t end up paying for a product that didn’t work for me.
I then understood why some people in the forum were selling theirs.
30 Day Free Trial
Since Dyson has a 30 day return period its almost like a Dyson Try before you Buy offer. I highly recommend you take advantage of Dyson’s return policy
Basically there is no commitment to keep the product if it doesn’t work out for you.
Definitely try the product as much as possible to determine if it’s truly what you want. If you don’t like it simply return it and get your money back.
When you buy a product that you don’t like but can’t return it you’re throwing money away unless you resell it.
Dyson Customer Service
Don’t discount the power of good customer service. Hands down, Dyson customer service is outstanding.
Previously I mentioned that I had done some research about how the Dyson hair products worked. Through reading Dyson reviews I learned that the Dyson Airwrap is a fantastic hairstyler, and it is not considered a hairdryer.
I ended up writing a review about my disappointment with the Supersonic hairdryer and a Dyson representative replied. I asked for more details about the Dyson Airwrap. The rep described that while it is not considered a hairdryer, it does have a setting designed to dry your hair to damp. However, if you choose, it can also dry your hair fully.
The Dyson Airwrap is much more expensive than the Supersonic. However, knowing that if it didn’t work out for me I could return it, I decided to give it a try.
Dyson Airwrap Promotion with Free Tools
At the time I decided to try it, Dyson had a promotional deal for additional tools with purchase.
I also found out that Dyson owners get discount codes to purchase Dyson products. They call it the Dyson owners reward program.
Because I had registered the Supersonic, they sent me a 20% discount code which I applied to my order. That’s how I got more bang for my buck for a new Airwrap.
The irony of the Dyson rewards program is that you have to buy a product and register it first and then you get the perks.
The biggest advantage when looking for savings on the Airwrap is to buy from Dyson.com website. After I purchased the Airwrap there was a promotion for two free tools. I reached out to customer service, and they sent the one I didn’t have. Great customer service!
What to know about Dyson promotional codes
- Dyson discount codes for owners are not transferable. However, Dyson allows for someone to use their promotional code to purchase a Dyson product for someone else.
- There are random times throughout the year when Dyson has sales.
- There are also random times Dyson has ‘free with purchase’ offers as well.
- If you can wait, Black Friday is the biggest Dyson sale of the year. However, be aware that not every product goes on sale for Black Friday or Cyber Monday. And even then, not every product that has a sale is a blowout discount either.
Overall I found that waiting for the Dyson Black Friday deal is a gamble.
How do I know this? I checked! I wanted other barrels and checked the Dyson deals during Pre-Black Friday, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and so on… Hasn’t been on sale yet.
- I noticed that outside of Black Friday, Dyson had the same sales as during Black Friday. But like I said before, sales are random.
- If there is a ‘new color’ or ‘new tool’ there’s a sale.
Frankly – sales are random.
Is there a Dyson sale right now?
Smart with the wallet
My next tip to save money on a Dyson is to buy it and pay with a credit card that has a cashback reward program. I got 1.5% cash back on my total purchase, further saving more money.
I use Capital One credit card which gives me 1.5% cash back on anything I buy
Chase Freedom is another card I often use because though it pays 1% cashback on every purchase, quarterly they also have 5% cash back on select categories. The categories vary per month.
To maximize your savings when shopping pay with credit cards that give you something back. Using a credit card that has a cashback program means that you get a cash back percentage on the total amount you spend.
If you prefer to get miles back, that’s also fine. The point here is to get something back when using your credit card.
Retailers Rewards Program
My next tip for saving money is the retailer’s rewards program. If you’re a Macy’s Star Rewards member or a My Best Buy Rewards membership and have points or star money to use then you can also pay less for a new Airwrap.
You may not get all the extra promo tools, but are you saving money?
My intent in writing this post is to make you aware of how you can also save money on a new Dyson Airwrap plus also get free tools or attachments like I did.
Is the Dyson Airwrap worth the money? Absolutely. I hope this post helps you save money if you decide to try one out.
Happy savings, TaLis
